AI clones of famous broadcaster Attenborough left him “profoundly disturbed”

Sir David Attenborough expressed criticism over the AI clones of his voice. The famous broadcaster around the world calls it an identity theft.

According to a BBC report, which showed the AI-generated version of the world-famous voice of Sir David Attenborough, says the broadcaster himself was “profoundly disturbed” by it.

He said “having spent a lifetime trying to speak what I believe to be the truth, I am profoundly disturbed to find these days my identity is being stolen by others and greatly object to them using it to say whatever they wish” in response to his AI cloned voice.

The rise in generative AI content has paved the way for ethical violence to create fake versions of people without their consent. This makes the celebrities say anything which they may not agree with in real life. Moreover, it even recreates the versions of ones that have passed away for real life.

AI-generated voice can easily spread misinformation without any regulation

Dr Jennifer Williams, a researcher of AI audio at the University of Southampton highlighted the need to have proper safeguards and regulations to differentiate between an AI-generated version of a person from his actual self. If not, this leads to the spread of misinformation.

She expressed her disgust saying a trustworthy voice like Attenborough is recognized by people around the world. Therefore, forcing words “in his mouth about war, politics and things that he has never said or may not ever endorse, is very concerning”.
