Mysten Labs, the company behind Sui blockchain, has announced the SuiPlay0X1, a handheld gaming device that merges blockchain technology with high-performance gaming. Slated for release in 2025, the device aims to bridge traditional and blockchain-based gaming.

Mysten Labs is pioneering “internet-less transactions” on the Sui blockchain, enabling crypto transactions via radio waves and mobile networks, to expand blockchain accessibility globally.

Will it change the gaming industry?

Slated for release in the first half of 2025, SuiPlay0X1 promises to change gaming by integrating blockchain technology into a high-performance, portable gaming system. With preorders already surpassing 1,500 units within the first day, the device is likely to make waves in the gaming industry.

Priced at $599, SuiPlay0X1 is engineered to support a wide range of games, from AAA PC titles to blockchain-powered experiences.

Weighing 677 grams, the device features an integrated graphics processing unit (GPU) and runs on Playtron GameOS, a Linux-based operating system that ensures compatibility with high-performance games without requiring modifications.

The SuiPlay0X1 is set to launch with several blockchain-based games, including the highly anticipated third-person shooter XOCIETY and the medieval brawler DARKTIMES.

These games are designed to demonstrate the potential of blockchain technology in providing deeper player engagement and ownership, without compromising the traditional gaming experience.

The integration of blockchain technology into the SuiPlay0X1 aims to offer players new ways to interact with games and digital assets.

By leveraging the Sui blockchain, Mysten Labs intends to enhance player ownership and create a more immersive gaming environment.

SuiPlay0X1’s support for blockchain-based games is expected to set a new standard in the industry, blending traditional gaming with cutting-edge technology.

‘Internet-less transactions’ on the Sui blockchain

Beyond gaming, Mysten Labs is also pushing the boundaries of blockchain technology with its innovative approach to offline crypto transactions for Sui blockchain.

The offline transactions dubbed “internet-less transactions” use mobile networks and radio waves to enable crypto transactions without relying on traditional internet connectivity.

This technology is particularly beneficial for unbanked communities and regions with limited access to the internet.

By utilizing alternative communication channels such as mesh networks, satellites, and radio, Sui aims to make crypto transactions accessible even in the most challenging environments.

Sui blockchain has already tested this alternative mode of communication, and it is “already working,” according to Mysten Labs’ co-founders Abiodun.

The team is now working on integrating the technology into IoT devices, which could also benefit Decentralised Physical Infrastructure (DePIN) projects, which Sui is also exploring.

(DePIN) projects are poised to revolutionize various industries, including cloud computing.

Sui’s approach to integrating blockchain technology extends to Decentralized Physical Infrastructure (DePIN) projects, which are poised to revolutionize various industries, including cloud computing.

By using mesh networks and other innovative solutions, Sui aims to bridge connectivity gaps and support decentralized infrastructure, aligning with the broader trend of incorporating blockchain technology into everyday applications.
